¿Qué es ANIMA?

ANIMA – Festival Internacional de Animación de Córdoba es un evento de carácter académico y cultural, de alcance internacional, dedicado específicamente al arte y la técnica de la animación. Se originó en 2001 como evento bienal, y a partir de su XI edición (2021) se transforma en un evento anual. Es uno de los principales eventos sobre animación realizado en la República Argentina; y uno de los festivales animados más relevantes y valorados de América Latina.

ANIMA no es un evento común. El principal objetivo es reunir a individuos creativos dedicados al arte y al oficio de la animación en un punto de encuentro, donde todo el debate e intercambio pueda dirigirse hacia el campo de la animación en cualquiera de sus muchas dimensiones de análisis: como expresión artística, como industria cultural, como material didáctico, como objeto de investigación, etc… ¡O sólo como algo divertido!

ANIMA posee tres dimensiones superpuestas:

• ANIMA ES UN FESTIVAL INTERNACIONAL DE ANIMACIÓN: Más de 3000 películas fueron recibidas para la última edición (2022), de las cuales fueron seleccionadas alrededor de una centena. Entre los invitados y jurados de las ediciones anteriores se encuentran importantísimas personalidades del mundo de la animación, entre ellos: Chris Hinton (Canadá); Juan Pablo Zaramella (Argentina); Marcy Page (Canadá); Santiago ‘Bou’ Grasso (Argentina); Michaela Pavlátova (República Checa); Javier Mrad (Argentina); Martine Chartrand (Canadá); Barry Purves (Reino Unido); Pablo Rodríguez Jaúregui (Argentina); Walter Tournier (Uruguay); Esteban Tolj (Argentina); Tomás Welss (Chile); Diego Rolle (Argentina); Otto Guerra (Brasil); Vivienne Barry (Chile); René Castillo (México); Hugo Covarrubias (Chile), y muchos más.

• ANIMA ES UNA OPORTUNIDAD PARA APRENDER DE LOS MEJORES: ANIMA brinda a sus asistentes múltiples oportunidades educativas de alto nivel y grado de profundización. En todas las ediciones anteriores se han organizado Seminarios, Talleres y Cursos en torno a distintas especificidades de la animación, tanto en el aspecto estético, narrativo y tecnológico. Las diferentes actividades estuvieron a cargo de artistas y profesionales destacados del ámbito nacional e internacional, como Rodolfo Sáenz Valiente (Argentina); Steven Woloshen (Canadá); Andrés Lieban (Brasil); Giannalberto Bendazzi (Italia).

• ANIMA ES UN CONGRESO INTERNACIONAL: El Foro Académico Internacional de Animación es un importante Congreso específico sobre Animación, desarrollado en castellano y en inglés. Realiza una convocatoria abierta a ponencias, presentaciones en video y posters. Un Comité Académico evalúa – mediante doble referato ciego – cuáles presentaciones integrarán el Congreso y su posterior publicación en Actas. En esta ocasión se desarrollará la V edición del Foro.

ANIMA – Córdoba International Animation Festival is both an academic and cultural event, devoted specifically to animation in its artistic and technological dimensions. It originated in 2001 as a biennial event, and from its XI edition (2021) it became  an annual event.  ANIMA is one of the main animation events held in the Argentine Republic; and one of the most relevant and valued animation festivals in Latin America.

ANIMA is no ordinary event. Its main objective is to gather creative individuals devoted to the art and craft of animation into a meeting point where all discussion and exchange can be directed into the scope of animation, in its many dimensions of analysis: as artistic expression, as cultural industry, as educational resource, as corpus for research, etc… Or just as fun!

ANIMA is jointly organized by the Centro Experimental de Animación (CEAn) of the Film and TV Dept, Faculty of Arts, Universidad Nacional de Córdoba (Argentina); the Secretaría de Extensión Universitaria of the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba; the Animation Chair of the Lic. in Audiovisual Design, IAPCH, Universidad Nacional de Villa María; and the Secretary of Culture of the City of Córdoba.

ANIMA is composed by three superimposed dimensions:

• It’s an ANIMATION FESTIVAL: Over 3000 films were submitted for the last edition (2022), of which about a hundred were selected. Among guests and jurors from former editions you will find many relevant personalities from the animation world, among them: Chris Hinton (Canada); Juan Pablo Zaramella (Argentina); Marcy Page (Canada); Santiago ‘Bou’ Grasso (Argentina); Michaela Pavlátova (Czech Republic); Javier Mrad (Argentina); Martine Chartrand (Canada); Barry Purves (United Kingdom); Pablo Rodríguez Jaúregui (Argentina); Walter Tournier (Uruguay); Esteban Tolj (Argentina); Tomás Welss (Chile); Diego Rolle (Argentina); Otto Guerra (Brazil); Vivienne Barry (Chile); René Castillo (Mexico); Hugo Covarrubias (Chile) and many more.

• It’s an OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN FROM THE BEST: ANIMA aims to bring in depth and high – end educational opportunities to its audience. Seminars, workshops and short courses are organized, centered on a variety of topics dedicated to specific animation aesthetics and technology, and are conducted by prestigious professionals in the area, such as the forementioned guests, Rodolfo Sáenz Valiente (Argentina); Steven Woloshen (Canada); Andrés Lieban (Brazil); Giannalberto Bendazzi (Italy).

• It’s a CONFERENCE: ANIMA’s International Academic Forum is the only specific Conference on Animation held in Latin America. It holds an open call for papers, video presentations and posters on animation, that undergo double peer – reviewing by an Academic Committee for selection and publication.
